Meet the Board
SMLA is led by an all-volunteer board of directors.
John Vidovich
President
John and his family visited SML in 2006 and moved to Moneta full time in 2019. John spent over 30 years in the financial services industry with a focus on business development and education finance. He was the Commodore of Prince William Yacht Club. John has served in several roles for SMLA, including SMLA’s representative on the TLAC Board of Directors.
Keri Green
Vice President and Lake Quality Council Chair
Keri and her husband Mark have owned a home on the lake in Union Hall since 2013. Keri has over 20 years of natural resource management and public policy experience. Keri serves on the Roanoke Valley and Allegheny Regional Planning Commission, the Smith Mountain Lake Water Quality Alliance, and the TLAC Environmental Committee.
Nancy Davenport
Treasurer
Nancy is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 2014, she and her husband Dave, purchased their first property at SML. Nancy has worked as Senior Vice President and CFO in a variety of non-profit and for-profit organizations. She has extensive experience in strategic planning and execution and operations activities.
Robert Sanders
Corporate Secretary
Robert has been a full-time lake resident in the Betty’s Creek area since June 2018 with his wife, Maureen. He is a retired chemistry teacher, coach, and assistant/associate principal from the Fairfax County Public Schools. Since relocating he has been active with several lake organizations including the Discovery Shop and the SMLA Water Quality Committee.
Jon Anderson
Fish Habitat & Invasive Species
Jon and his wife Beth live in the Boardwalk neighborhood. He is as a Board member of the Boardwalk POA and a Board Member and VP of Smith Mountain Striper Club.He enjoys family visits with the 2 grandkids and swimming, fishing, and boating at beautiful SML.
David Barnhart
Western Virginia Water Authority
David is the Assistant Director for Engineering Services for the Western Virginia Water Authority. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, David lives in Wirtz, Virginia and has enjoyed the lake since childhood.
Roger Blankenship
Bedford Regional Water Authority
Roger is Director of Engineering for the Bedford Regional Water Authority. He is also the chair of the SMLA Fish Habitat committee. Roger has been a lake resident living at the lake in Franklin County since 2009.
Scott Bull
Invasive Species Committee
Scott is retired V.P of Research and Advanced Development for E Ink Corporation. Scott’s career spanned 40 years focusing on chemistry, material science, and microelectronics. Scott and his wife Deborah moved to SML in October 2020. He is a volunteer for the SMLA Water Quality Monitoring program.
Bill Butterfield
Past President
Bill is retired Executive Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer of Andritz, Inc. He and his wife Carol purchased their home on SML in 2016. Bill spent 43 years in the paper and associated industries. Bill served as SMLA president from 2021-2024.
Amy Campbell
Events & Fundraising Committee
Amy has been a member of the Smith Mountain Lake Community since 2001, when she met her husband Jimmy. Amy has lived in both Franklin and Bedford county area of SML currently residing in Huddleston. Amy is a REALTOR® with RE/MAX Lakefront Realty and is a licensed real estate appraiser.
Tye Campbell
Education & Grants Committee
Tye and his wife Doreen have been residents of Bedford County since 1986, living at the lake since July 2021. Tye, a professional engineer, recently retired after 40+ years in the architecture and engineering field.
Mary Colligan
Dock Watch Committee
Mary is semi-retired and moved to her dream house on Smith Mountain Lake in 2021 to be closer to family. Mary worked as a wildlife biologist for the National Marine Fisheries Service based in Gloucester, Massachusetts and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Anchorage, Alaska.
Fiona Hawley
Save Our Streams Committee
Fiona is a retired Registered Nurse, originally from England, who moved permanently to SML with her husband Jeff in 2021.They have four adult girls and two grandsons. Fiona is passionate about her family, her community and the environment, being particularly concerned about preserving the health and beauty of the lake and surrounding area.
Tom Hardy
Water Quality Monitoring Committee
Tom and his wife moved to Smith Mountain Lake in 2005. After working as an actuary in the insurance industry for 41 years, he retired in 2017. Out of a strong desire to protect this beautiful lake that we are fortunate to be able to enjoy every day, Tom joined the Water Quality Monitoring program in 2017
Nora Hedrick
Membership Committee
Nora and her husband built their home here in 2020. Her career was in the financial services industry. She worked as a CPA and a Controller of a small business and retired after 24 years as a Compliance Officer with Truist Bank. She currently leads the Membership Committee and encourages you to become a SMLA member today!
Pete Heyroth
Septic Education Committee
Pete and his wife moved to Smith Mountain Lake in 2021 following his retirement after 40 years in the oil and gas industry. During his working career he was a safety, health and environmental professional giving him the interest and background to help support SMLA.
Brittany Hutchison
Business Partners Committee
Brittany is a Roanoke native who has spent both her childhood and adult life enjoying all that Smith Mountain Lake has to offer. She is a REALTOR® with Wainwright & Co. – REALTORS at the lake, where she combines her local expertise with a deep appreciation for the community. Brittany is passionate about volunteering for initiatives that support the safety and water quality of the lake and the success of the SML community.
Jill Kurtz
Communication Committee
Jill and her husband Bob live near R24. She is the chair of the SMLA communication committee. Jill is the owner of Kurtz Digital Strategy, which provides online marketing services for small businesses at the lake and beyond.
Jeff Markiewicz
Water Safety Council Chair & Leesville Lake Liaison
Jeff and his wife purchased a Log Cabin on Leesville Lake at Old Woman’s Creek near Mile Marker 2 in 2017. Jeff is a retired engineer who worked for the US Navy for 34 years and has been a full time resident at Leesville Lake since October 2022. He is a member and vessel safety examiner of the Smith Mountain Lake Sail and Power Squadron and is Chair of the Water Safety and Education committee for the Leesville Lake Association.
Eli Meador
APCO Liaison
Eli is a lifelong resident of the Smith Mountain Lake Community. He currently serves as the Process Supervisor for Appalachian Power Company’s Shoreline Management team. Eli and his colleagues are responsible for managing shoreline development activities along the shorelines of Smith Mountain and Leesville lakes.
David Moylan
Finance Committee
David and his wife Susan purchased a home in Mountain View Shores where they became full-time residents in 2018. David retired in 2022 after 44 years in the insurance business. Other activities include being involved with the Joyous Junque program at Resurrection Catholic Church, President of the MVS HOA, and a finance committee member for a Penn State Fraternal organization.
Geoff Orth
Save Our Streams Committee
Geoff and his wife Kathy built a vacation house near R26 in 1994. Professionally, he worked as an academic administrator. On active duty in the Army, he was assigned as a tactical intelligence officer in Vietnam, after which he went on to serve over 20 years in the Reserve. He is active in the Blue Ridge Foothills and Lakes Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists.
Mike Rodgers
Water Safety Council
After over 40 years in the facilities management industry, most recently as CEO of EMCOR Government Services, Mike retired in December 2023. Mike and his wife Joanne have three daughters and two grandchildren. His family vacationed at SML for 19 years before purchasing a lakefront home in 2023. Mike and Joanne relocated full-time to Bedford County in 2025. He is a dog lover who enjoys boating, woodworking, painting, reading and relaxing in the lake
Lorie Smith
Franklin County Board Liaison
Lorie and her family have lived at SML since 2013. Lorie has spent the last 30+ years giving back to her community in public and non-profit capacities. Currently, Lorie is Vice-Chair of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors, serving on the Community Policy & Management Team, Chairman of Broadband Authority and School Board Liaison; Virginia Association of Counties Vice Chair, General Government, Economic Development and Nominations Steering Committees; SML Regional Chamber of Commerce Legislative Affairs Committee; Vice-Chair, Roanoke Alleghany Regional Commission; and TLAC Board of Directors.
