Lake Level Update

Last month SMLA initiated a meeting among a group of SML stakeholders and Appalachian Power Company (APCo) to advocate for changes to the Water Management Plan. The meeting included representatives from SMLA, Tri-County Lakes Administrative Commission (TLAC), SML Chamber of Commerce, Leesville Lake Association, VA Department of Environmental Quality, and VA Department of Wildlife Resources.

While it was a productive discussion and there is interest to protect SML from future droughts, the process will take time. SMLA will continue to not only have a seat at the table, but also a leadership position. APCo will be hosting a public meeting prior to the end of the year to hear from everyone who enjoys the Smith Mountain Project watershed.  As soon as the date is determined, we will share the information here and on our Facebook page.
