Clearing for New Landscape Beds
Any herbicide used to kill off turf grass or other undesirable plants, will eventually make its way into the lake. Consider laying down heavy cardboard or black plastic to remove unwanted vegetation without chemicals. It will take a few weeks to be effective, but causes much less harm to water quality.
Don’t forget, if you want to remove vegetation, other than turfgrass, at or below the 800-foot contour, you’ll need to comply with AEP requirements listed in the shoreline management plan. This includes using native plants, including trees and woody shrubs.
Specific requirements for the quantity of replacement plant materials are found in the current AEP current shoreline management plan.
