Volunteer Spotlight: Sally Wagner
We were first introduced to Smith Mountain Lake when visiting my great aunt who was living in Salem in 1983. She asked if we would take her to ‘the lake.’ The entire family fell in love with the lake, who wouldn’t? Almost without exception we spent every summer vacation here, whether we lived in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, or North Carolina. We purchased our home in 2016 while downsizing from Raleigh to Winston Salem. In 2020 we realized we were ‘home’ and moved here permanently.
It has been a privilege to be able to volunteer in the SMLA office as well as on the Dock Watch and Membership committees while assisting in SMLA’s mission to safeguard the quality and beauty of the lake. I would encourage anyone who has even the tiniest interest in saving this beautiful environment to volunteer. I admit that I have a selfish interest. I am hoping that our 10 grandchildren can experience the joy that their parents did growing up playing, swimming, and fishing in this wonderful lake. Who can watch the sunlight sparkling on the lake and not know that it is a ‘diamond day’?
