Volunteer Spotlight: Sarah Richardson

Sarah Richardson

I moved to the lake from central Ohio in May 2024. My family originated in the West Virginia Potomac Highlands, just two hours north of here, so Smith Mountain Lake immediately felt like coming home. I’ve always felt a strong connection to the land and believed in protecting this sacred garden planet we live on!

I recently retired from a long career as a Professional Landscape Architect. Volunteering as the SMLA Buffer Landscaping Chair enables me to continue to follow my passions, and contribute my experience and knowledge in a meaningful manner. This past year I helped bring the Mariners Landing demonstration buffer garden to completion, enabling me to meet many great people, doing great things!
