Safe Wake Boarding Tips

If you are wake boarding or enjoying any other type of towed water sports at SML, the Wake Education Task Force has 4 tips to keep it fun and safe:

👍Minimize repetitive passes

👍Stay 200 feet away from docks, shorelines and swimmers

👍Avoid narrow coves and congested areas

👍Avoid driving erratically and unpredictably

Towed watersports are a great way to have fun on the water. Sometimes the lake can be very busy with tubers, skiers, wake boarders and more. These 4 tips will help ensure the safety of your rider, the folks that are on your boat and the other boaters around you.

More safety tips:

  • Wear life jackets any time you are in or around the water.
  • Have both a boat operator/driver that’s paying attention to the things that are going on around them and an observer to watch the person being towed. One person can’t effectively do both. Always pick up your riders on the starboard side or driver’s side of the boat so you have eyes on your rider at all times.
  • There’s no need to throw a huge wake as you turn around to pick up your rider. In an emergency the best plan is to put your boat in between the oncoming boat and your rider.

Have fun and stay safe!
