The Next Generation of Lake Stewards

,

To help in SMLA mission to keep SML Clean & Safe, the SMLA education committee worked in collaboration with Bedford County Public Schools on SML State Park during the month of April to educate 9th graders on the methods used by SMLA to analyze and track our water health. Based on the photos taken and the feedback received from students, the program, Lake Days, was heralded as a success by all.

Students particularly enjoyed gauging the health of the stream at the park with one student noting that she liked learning about, “the high and low pollution tolerance of the creatures.”

One student was surprised to learn, “how many watersheds there are”, while another student’s take away was, “that the lake produces a lot of power.”
