Stray voltage in the water around docks is a risk at Smith Mountain Lake. This was brought to the forefront this summer when someone swimming near a dock was killed due to apparent voltage in the water.
Building inspectors from the three counties surrounding Smith Mountain Lake are working together to protect swimmers. Bedford, Franklin and Pittsylvania Counties have collaboratively developed two documents that address dock safety as it relates to stray voltage.
