Creek Week 2024

Creek Week, a partnership among Franklin County Schools, the Western Virginia Water Authority, and SMLA’s Save our Streams, is held every year at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Rocky Mount.

Through their classroom study and lab work in a creek running through school property, all sixth-graders focus on stream health as part of their studies in environmental science.

In the lab portion of their instruction, they learn how to measure water temperature and acidity (pH), and also how to net and identify the stream’s pollution tolerant and intolerant macroinvertebrates.
