Latest Water Quality Monitoring Report Is Good News for Smith Mountain Lake

Is Smith Mountain Lake healthy? The latest Water Quality Monitoring Report confirms the answer is a solid YES!

You can hear all the details at the 2023 Water Quality Monitoring Program live webinar jointly sponsored by SMLA and Ferrum College. The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, from 4:00-5:30 pm.

According to the 2023 Water Quality Monitoring report published by Ferrum College:

“The overall conclusion in regard to the water quality in Smith Mountain Lake is that it is very good. The lake is not aging as fast as would have been predicted for a reservoir.”

This 89-page report is available along with additional water quality monitoring resources at the SMLA website. The report has details about the lake water quality and the citizen volunteer monitoring program that has been collecting water samples and taking water quality readings at the lake for the past 37 years.

On behalf of the 53 volunteer monitors and the 11 faculty and students from Ferrum College, we hope you can join us for the webinar where a summary of the report findings and their significance will be discussed.

The 2023 Water Quality Monitoring Program webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, from 4:00-5:30 pm. There will be time allotted for questions at the end of the formal presentation. A replay of the webinar will be posted on the SMLA website.
