2022 SMLA Annual Meeting

Smith Mountain Lake Association announces it’s annual meeting for Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Trinity Ecumenical Parish.  This will be the first in person meeting after two years of virtual meetings due to COVID restrictions.

The meeting will be from 6:30 – 8 PM.  Doors will open at 5:30 PM with exhibits highlighting SMLA  programs, along with exhibits from many of SMLA partner organizations.  SMLA will provide heavy snacks and refreshment during the exhibits.

The program will highlight the association’s accomplishments over the past year to protect the water of SML and promote safe and responsible recreation, discuss plans for 2023, and include a panel discussion focused on water quality at Smith Mountain Lake.  Additionally, SMLA will present our four annual awards: for lifesaving on the lake; for efforts to keep the lake safe; for citizen volunteers in support of the lake; and the  “spirit of the lake” award.  There will also be door prizes.

The meeting is for SMLA members with non-members of the community also invited.

Smith Mountain Lake Association (SMLA) announces its’ Annual Membership Meeting that will take place on Thursday September 29th at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Dr., Moneta, VA 24121.  This meeting is open to the public and we encourage you to attend.  

Doors open at 5:30 pm with the opportunity for members and guests to visit the table top displays from each of the twelve SMLA committees:

  • Water Quality Monitoring
  • Water Safety Council
  • Save Our Streams
  • Invasive Species
  • Fish Habitat
  • Buffer Landscaping
  • Vessel Pump-Out
  • Septic Systems
  • Sub-Surface Aquatic Vegetation
  • Family and Business Membership
  • AEP Committees: Debris, Recreation, Erosion/Sedimentation
  • Marketing

and eight stakeholders:

  • Franklin County
  • Bedford County
  • AEP and AEP Shoreline
  • Bedford Regional Water Authority
  • Western Virginia Regional Water Authority
  • Virginia DWR
  • Virginia Master Naturalist
  • Franklin County Master Gardner’s
  • Sea Tow Foundation

Walk-a-round food will be provided.  The program runs from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, will include an SMLA “big” picture summary from Bill Butterfield, President SMLA, and feature a panel discussion on water quality, safety, invasive species, and buffer landscaping.  

SMLA, whose mission is to Protect the Water of Smith Mountain Lake and Promote Safe Recreation, will be sharing our 2022 accomplishments and vision for the future of SMLA.  “If you are a member of the association and/or a homeowner on Smith Mountain Lake, I hope you will come to learn what our amazing volunteers have accomplished this year and how those accomplishments effect you and your property value”, said Bill Butterfield, President of SMLA.
